INTERNATIONAL SOLAR ALLIANCE

  

     The International solar alliance has become the first treaty-based international government organisations to be based in India, after 19 countries ratifying its framework agreement.

This marks the zenith of India's determination, which had taken a lead role in setting up the ISA- an alliance of 121 sunshine countries situated between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricon. ISA also signals that New Delhi would employ it as a foreign policy tool to cement its leadership among developing countries.

ISA was launched jointly by the prime minister of India and the president of France on 30th November 2015, at Paris on the side-lines of the 21st Cop meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

ISA is part of Prime Minister's vision to bring clean and affordable energy within the reach of all and create a sustainable world. It will be a new begning for accerlerating  development and deployment of solar energy for achieving universal energy access and energy security of the present and future generations.

It has been envisioned as a specialized platform and will contribute towards the comman goal of increasing utilization and promotion of solar energy and solar applications in its member countries. The paris declaration on International Solar Alliance states that the countries share the collective ambition to undertake innovative and concerted efforts for reducing the cost of finance and cost of technology for immediate deployment of competitive solar generation, financial instruments to mobilise more than1000 Billion US Dollars of investment needed by 2030 for the massive deployment of asffordable solar generation, storage and good technologises for countries's individual needs.

ISA is working for deployment of over 1000 GW of solar energy and mobilising more than US $ 1000 billion into solar energy by the new year 2030 . The Activities of ISA shall include to undertake joint efforts required to reduce the cost of finance and the cost of technology, mobilize more than US$ 1000 billion of investment needed by 2030 for  massive deployment of solar energy and pave the way for future technologies adapted to the needs of 121 countries lying fully or partially between the Tropics. As on 6th November 2017 44 countries have signed the framework Agreement of the ISA and out of which 15 have submitted the formal instrument of ratification to the depository .
